Studio at Iowa Lakeside Lab Artist Residency

artist statement

I am interested in contemplative art practices that focus on perception and awareness, the natural environment, interconnectedness, impermanence, integral theory and deep ecology. With the use of found and natural materials (acknowledging our deep connection to the world), humor (light and open approach to life), simplicity (less is more) and a heightened attention to process (grinding charcoal in a stone to make ink for calligraphy), I have transformed my energies from a prior, dual world of aggression into a new, non-dual world of non-aggression and spaciousness. Essentially, this contemplative art practice is an ongoing attempt to “see things as they are” rather than how I think or imagine they are.
